Dear Local Gourmands,
Forgive my tardiness with this mid-week note– I’d forgotten just how much moving throws everything up in the air. My systems are off, and so too is the belated Monday newsletter.
Settling into the new house quite naturally begins by making my way around the kitchen. On Saturday friends came over to break in the pad– we grilled pork patties on the roof, stained our fingers with beets and berries. Tonight I rode my bike home, down the long slope of Vanderbilt with the summer night lapping at my arms, my handle bars strung with tote bags full of CSA produce. I’m experimenting with making an entirely basil-themed dinner– from a raw zucchini and basil salad (inspired by my roommate, Erin) to a basil ice cream recipe from Gourmet. The blankets I spread on the roof for Saturday’s barbecue are still stained with cherry juice, but summer eating is far too good to make me care.
Let the juice drip down your chin,
Jeanne
